Solution

For 1st machine,

$x + \frac{x}{4} = 12000$

$\frac{5x}{4} = 12000$

$x = 9600$

Hence the profit on 1st machine = ₹2400

For 2nd machine, $y - \frac{y}{4} = 12000$

$\frac{3y}{4} = 12000$

Hence loss on 2nd machine = ₹4000

Hence total loss/ profit = 4000 - 2400 = ₹1600
