Let the genotype of : Pure tall plant / Homozygous dominant gene be TT, Heterozygous gene be Tt, and Homozygous recessive gene be tt. Since, the character - plant height follows Mendelian genetics, so it also follows the 'Law of Dominance'. Thus, the T allele is dominant over t allele.
a) In the F1 generation, all the plants have the genotype Tt. So, here, since T is dominant over t, the expression of t is suppressed and only the expression of T is expressed. Thus, the genotype contains the allele t, irrespective of it being expressed in the progeny.
b) In the F2 generation, the genotype of the plants TT:Tt:tt are in the ratio of 1:2:1. So, the plants which are present in homozygous recessive condition i.e. tt, are only, able to express the 'short' trait, since there is no one to suppress it.
