here, radius of sphere is also R (cyclinder is closed)

so, surface area = 4 pi R*R

Given,
The cylinder just encloses a sphere of radius 'R'.

So the radius of cylinder is also 'R' units.

Now.By formulae for CSA of a cylinder.→2πrh

The CSA of the given cylinder would be
→2πR(h) →(1)

Now,Since the Cylinder encloses the sphere of Radius 'R'. The height of the cylinder would be the diameter of the sphere ,ie =2R.

So (1) becomes...
2πR(2R)

=4πR² unit²

So, 4πR² sq.units is your required CSA for the given Cylinder.(Provided it just encloses a sphere of radius 'R'.)

Hope it Helps...

AnjaliRoy00: ok , i'm going
Leukonov: In normal case... that is true... Here... given the Cylinder just encloses the sphere. So height =2R.
Leukonov: Then Tell me How you got "4πR*R".???
AnjaliRoy00: ok, but it doen't matter
Leukonov: Hmmm....
Leukonov: let's just leave at that then... For the better.
AnjaliRoy00: because area of sphere is only depends on R of sphere , here R = radius of cyclinder,

it is independent of Hight
Leukonov: but surface are of cylinder is asked.
AnjaliRoy00: ok sorry, its my mistake
Leukonov: Well... Whatever... Though our methods may be different, We got the same answer... All the same.
