now, mark price = CP + 40% of CP

                           = 140CP/100 rs = 140x/100 rs

now discount on mark price is 40%

therefore, selling price = mark price - 40% of mark price

                                       = 140x/100  -   (40/100)(140x/100)

                                       = 140x/100  -  5600x/10000

                                      = 14000x/10000 - 5600x/10000

                                      = 8400x/10000 rs

                                     = 84x/100 rs

x> 84x/100, therefore loss happened

loss = x - 84x/100 = 16x/100 rs

loss% = (x/(16x/100))/100

         =  16%
