Given :

The selling price of chairs = $1296

The profit percentage = 8%

The loss percentage = 5%

To Find:

The selling price of chair at loss percentage

Solution:

let the selling price = S.P

Let The cost price= C.P

profit percentage = \dfrac{S.P-C.P}{C.P} × 100

Or,                          8% = \dfrac{1296-C.P}{C.P}

Or,                          0.08 = \dfrac{1296}{C.P} - 1

or,                          \dfrac{1296}{C.P} = 1 + 0.08

Or,                         \dfrac{1296}{C.P} = 1.08

∴                            C.P = \dfrac{1296}{1.08}

i.e Cost price of chair = C.P = $ 1200

Again

Let the new selling price of chair at loss percentage = s.p

∵  Loss percentage = \dfrac{C.P-s.p}{C.P} × 100

Or,                          5% = 1 - \dfrac{s.p}{C.P}

Or,                          0.05 = 1 - \dfrac{s.p}{1200}

or,                           \dfrac{s.p}{1200} = 1 - 0.05

Or,                          \dfrac{s.p}{1200} = 0.95

i.e                            s.p = 0.95 × 1200

Or,                           s.p = $1140

Hence, The selling price of chair at its loss percentage is            $ 1140 . Answer
