A solution with pH 6 has concentration 10-6 M
If it is diluted 1000 times, it becomes 10-6/1000 = 10-9 M

Water has a pH = 7. Thus, [H3O+] in water = 10-7 M

Now, the [H3O+] in dilute acidic solution will approach 10-7 M. The concentration can not become less than 10-7 M due to dissociation of water to H3O+.
So, pH of resulting solution will be approx. 6.96.

Answer:Answer:10^-6 m hcl has pH=6

Now,after diluting [H^+] =10^-6÷100=10^-8

So,10^-8 [H^+] will come from Acid and 10^-7 [H^+] will come from water (it is pre assumed at 25℃ )

Now, total [H^+] = 10^-7 + 10^-8 =11 × 10^-8

Therefore , the new pH will be=

-log[H^+]=-log[11×10^-8]

=-log11 -log10^-8

=8 -log11

=8 - 1.0413=6.958(Answer)
