a^2 +b^2 = 5

ab=2

(a-b)^2 =a^2 +b^2 - 2ab

=5 - 4

= 1

now, (a - b)^2 = 1

a-b = 1

a^3 - b^3=(a-b)(a^2+b^2+ab)

=1(5+2)

=7

hence a^3 - b^3= 7
