a^2 + b^2 = 74
a^2 + b^2 + 2a b - 2a b = 74
( a + b )^2 - 2 a b = 74 _________eq.(1)
now put value of ' ab ' here in eq. (1), we get
( a + b )^2 - 2 ( 35 ) = 74
( a + b )^2 - 70 = 74
( a + b )^2 = 74 + 70
( a + b )^2 = 144
a + b = √144
a + b = 12
therefore value of ( a + b ) = 12
