To find the part of a whole we multiply the fraction with the whole to get the part.

for

 \frac{x}{y} of z

We multiply

 \frac{x}{y} (z)

Total capacity of the theater = 1800

Tickets sold

= one third

 =\frac{1}{3}

So tickets sold

 \frac{1}{3}(1800)

= 600

Hence the tickets sold by the theater = 600

If a theater holds 1,800 people, and sells 1/3 of its seats, then it sells 600 tickets.
