Answer:

20kms

Step-by-step explanation:

40(x + 11/60) = 50(x + 5/60)

40x + 22/3 = 50x + 25/6

50x - 40x = 22/3 - 25/3

10x = (44 - 25)/6

x = 19/60

DISTANCE = 50(19/60 + 5/60)

= 50(20/60)

= 20kms

Step-by-step explanation:

GIVEN:

THE TRAIN RUNS 40 KM /H AND IT REACHES IT'S DESTINATION LATE BY 11 MINS OR 11/60 HRS.

ALSO IF IT IS RUN AT 50 KM/H IT IS LATE BY 5 MINS ONLY OR 5/60 HRS.

TO FIND:

DISTANCE COVERED BY THE TRAIN.

ALGORITHM:

FIRST LET'S ASSUME DISTANCE BE d KM.

THEN THE TIME WILL COME BY DIVIDING d WITH SPEED GIVEN THAT IS 40 AND 50 .

THEN YOU CAN FIND DIFFERENCE IN THE TIME INTERVAL AND EQUATE WITH TIME WE GET FROM ABOVE.

SOLUTION:

LET'S DISTANCE BE d.

NOW TIME WILL BE;

d/40 and d/50 as time is distance upon time.

NOW FINDING THE DIFFERENCE OF TIME INTERVAL GIVEN;

11/60-5/60=6/60=1/10

NOW ATQ;

d/40-d/50=1/10

=>50d-40d/2000=1/10

=>10d/2000=1/10

=>d/200=1/10

=>d=1/10×200=20 km.

HENCE DISTANCE COVERED BY TRAIN IS 20 KMS.
