Okay so,
Let the actual time taken be x
And the distance be y
Therefore when the speed of the train is 40km/h the time taken will be : x +11
Therefore when the speed of the train is 50km/h the time taken will be : x +5
Then as we know - Speed * time = distance
We can now make two equations
1) 40 * (x+11) = y
2) 50 * (x+5) = y
Then we solve the simultaneous equations
Opening the brackets
40x + 440 = y
50x + 250 = y
————————————————
y - 40x = 440
y - 50x = 250
We subtract both the equations
————————————————-
y - 40x = 440
(-)y (+)50x = (-)250
Therefore,
10x = 190
x = 19.
This the time taken. Now we just substitute the valie into one of the equations.
40 * (x+11) = y
40 * (19+11) = y
40 * 30 = y
y = 1200. This the distance to be cover.
