If all the k l m n shells are filled with electrons then what will be the total number of electrons ???
2,8,8,8
2,8,18,36
Can anyone help me correctly because I am confused whether I should take 8 electrons in outer most shell or 18 and 36 . ..... Help.me correctly...
Answers
We know that outer most shell only can accomadate 8 electrons now 1st shell can accomadate 2 electrons and 2nd shell can accommodate 8 electrons and 3rd shell can accommodate 18 electrons therefore total no.of electrons is 8+2+8+18=36
Answer:
Good question ....I was also stuck in this before...when I used to be in Class 9....
Explanation:
In the book it is given......That the Elections revolve around the Nucleus in an Orbital shell.....
There are orbital shells arranged as k,l,m,n....In which the 1st shell accommodates 2 electrons
2nd shell - 8
3rd shell - 18
4th shell - 32.....
Total electrons = 60...
It is through the Formula 2n²...... where n is the the term of shell!.....
ex. 1st shell - 2n² (n= 1)....2(1)² = 2....that means 2 electrons in the 1st shell.....and same goes to the rest !...
this process of arrangment of Electonic configuration was given Bohr and BURy...
Now ...the thing is why we take 8 Elections in the 3rd shell instead of 18....
this is becoz.....to make it easier....Becoz we often know ... arranging 2,8 Elections in the outermost shell......
so we take in the other 3rd shell tooo.....as 18 is big no.,it take a lot of time and also it is quite difficult to arrange so.......
fir example: Potassium- Atomic Number : 19
since, atomic number is equal to no. of electrons..... Therefore 19 electrons....
electronic configuration = 2,8,8,1..
