i guess the question is wrong! it is supposed to be x²+4x+4 otherwise we will not be able to split the middle term.

x²+4x+4=0

x²+2x+2x+4=0

x(x+2)+2(x+2)=0

(x+2)(x+2)=0

∴α=β=-2

∴α+1=-2+1=-1

∴β+1=-2+1=-1
