Answer:-

Given:-

an = 5n -2

To Find:-

The s4 term

Solution:-

Putting n = 1, 2 ,3 in 5n-1 , we get

a1 = 5 ×1 -2= 5-2= 3

a2 = 5 × 2 - 2 = 10 -2 = 8

a3 = 5 × 3 -2 = 15 -2 = 13

so,

1st term (a1 ) = 3

2nd term ( a2 ) = 8

3rd term (a3) = 13

Common difference = a2 -a1

d = 8 -3

d = 5.

s4 = n/2 [ 2a+ ( n-1)d]

s4 = 4/2 [ 2×3 + ( 4-1)5]

s4 = 2 [ 6 + 3 ×5 ]

s4 = 2[ 6 + 15]

s4 = 2[ 21]

s4 = 42

Therefore , the s4 term of the ap is 42.
