If an object had moved through a distance, can its displacement be zero?Why?

suppose there are two points on a path of let's say 20 km,now if you go from point A to point B and then again from point B to point A, the total amount of distance you covered in that journey would be 40 km. But it's not the same in case of displacement simply because of the phenomenon of "zero displacement".,in which if you go from A to B(in a particular direction of course) the displacement will be 20 km due north,south or whatever may be the direction...but if you return from B to A the displacement will decrease and eventually you'll find yourself with no displacement but only a sum total of distance.
