Answer:

4

Step-by-step explanation:

Given polynomial=on  p(x)=X^2 –4 X+3             =>         (ax^2 +bx=c)

let \alpha and \beta are the roots of the equations

then

we know that, \alpha+\beta = b/a

(where a=1 and b= -4 and c=3)

                             = -(-4)/1

                             =   4

               (or)

p(x)=X^2 –4 X+3

    =x^2 - 3x -x +3

    =x(x - 3) -1 (x - 3)

    =(x - 1) (x - 3)

therefore x = 1 or 3

roots of the equation are 1 and 3

sum of the roots \alpha+\beta = 4
