If apes evolved from monkeys why are there still monkeys

the term ‘monkey’ does not only apply to the members of two specific living anthropoid clades – Platyrrhini and Cercopithecoidea, respectively – it’s also a catch-all label for primates of a certain evolutionary grade: for ‘non-hominoid anthropoids’ so the apes evolved from a different evolutionary grade.

Human beings did not evolve from modern-day monkeys; human beings and modern-day monkeys both evolved from an extinct common ancestor (which was also, colloquially speaking, ‘a monkey’).
