Answer:

b = 2

a = 0

Step-by-step explanation:

If ax3 + bx2 +x -6 has (x+2) as a factor and leaves remainder 4 when divided by  (x -2 ) , Find the values of a and b .

f(x) = ax³ + bx² + x - 6

x+2 is a factor

=> f(-2) = 0

=> a(-2)³ + b(-2)² + (-2) -6 = 0

=> -8a +4b = 8

=> -2a + b = 2       eq 1

remainder 4 when divided by  (x -2 )

=> f(2) = 4

=> a(2)³ + b(2)² + 2 -6 = 4

=> 8a + 4b = 8

=> 2a + b = 2       eq 2

Adding eq 1  & eq 2

=> 2b = 4

=> b = 2

=> a = 0
