If carbon can't gain 4 electrons,then how can Phosphorous gain 5 electrons in PCl5?

because carbon has 4 electrons in its outermost shell... and it is a tetravalent on the other hand.... phosphorus have 5 electrons in its outer most shell..... it is not easy to donate electrons 4 electrons to make bond.... because carbon need exactly 4 electron to obtain noble gas configuration
