Given: cos A = 12/13

∴ By Pythagoras theorem,

= (AC)² = (AB)² - (BC)²

= (BC)² = (AC)² - (AB)²

= BC = \sqrt{AC^2-AB^2}

= BC = \sqrt{13^2-12^2}

= BC = √25 = √5²

= BC = 5cm

⇒ sin A = Opposite/Hypotenuse = BC/AC = 5/13

⇒ tan A = Opposite/Adjacent = BC/AB = 5/12
