Step-by-step explanation:

cot+cos=x

cot-cos=y

so,

x²-y²

(cot+cos)²-(cot-cos)²

=cot²+cos²+2cotcos-cot²-cos²+2cotcos

=4cotcos.......(1)

[xy=cot²-cos²

=(cos²-sin²cos²/sin²)

=cos²(1-sin²)/sin²

=cos²cos²/sin²

=cot²cos² ]

(1) x²-y²=4xy
