their ages is 3:7, then what is the age of Y?

7x = 3y  \\ x =  \frac{(3y)}{7 }   \\ x  - y = 12 \\ x = 12 + y \\ x =  \frac{3y}{7 }  \\ 12 + y =  \frac{3y}{7}  \\ 7(12 + y) = 3y \\ 84 + 7y = 3y \\ 4y = 84 \\ y =  \frac{84}{4 }  \\ y = 21
