Due to entropy, all systems get even more disorderly and useful energy is converted into useless energy. Living organisms use food, a source of energy to keep themselves ordered. An organism dies when it doesn't have food because it runs out of energy. Life constantly converts energy it obtains from surroundings to keep itself ordered.
