Equivalent weight of S in SO₂  = 8...    So 8 gms of S reacts with 8 gms of O.. There are 2*16=32 gms of O in SO₂.

       Hence, atomic mass of S = 8*32/8=32.

In SO₃ , 32 gms of S reacts with 3*16=48 gms of O.
Hence, equivalent mass of S in SO₃ = 32 /48 * 8 = 16/3 gm.
Also valency of S in SO₃ = 6... so  32/6 =16/3 ..
