Let the initial side be a units
Area = (√3)a²/4 sq. units
Now, side is doubled,
new side, a' = 2a
New area = (√3)(2a)²/4
=4×[(√3)a²/4]
=4×(initial area)
Area of new triangle will be 4 times the old one.
