solution:

Substituting x-1 in place of x

f(x-1)=3(x-1)^4–5(x-1)^2+9

(a-b)^4=a^4–4a^3b+6a^2b^2–4ab^3+b^4

=3(x^4–4x^3+6x^2-4x+1)-5(x^2–2x+1)+9

=(3x^4–12x^3+18x^2–12x+3)-5x^2+10x-5+9

=3x^4–12x^3+13x^2–2x+7
