f(x) = ax + b
f(-1) = -a + b
Given f(-1) = - 5
⇒ b - a = - 5 ..... eq(1)
f(3) = 3a + b
Given f(3) = 3
⇒ 3a + b = 3 .... eq(2)
Subtracting eq(1) from eq(2)
eq(2) - eq(1)
3a + b = 3
a - b = 5
⇒ 4a = 8
a = 2
b - a = -5
b = - 3
a = 2 and b = -3
