The value of g is 9.8 m/s^2 refering to the Earth's acceleration of gravity, which is minimum at the Equator and maximum at the poles.

So the value of g will be low at Goa which is in India near the equator and high on Mount Everest nearer to the poles.

It is the accleration with which a body travels towards the centre of earth.
