Given :

Distance travelled from Mumbai to Pune  = 150km

Distance travelled from Pune to Mumbai = 180km

t₁ = 150 min

t₂ = 210 min

To find :

Average velocity for the entire journey

Solution :

  • Average velocity = Total displacement / Time taken
  • In this case the journry stars from Mumbai and again the journey ends in mumbai which means the displacement of particle is zero though the paths followed during the journey are different.
  • Average velocity = 0/t₁+t₂
  • Average velocity = 0

The average velocity for the entire journey is 0m/s
