If l+b=40 and l-b=20 what is the value of l and b?

solving two equations by adding them,

we get, 2l = 60
l=30

then putting l = 30 in 1st

b= 10

l+b=40 therefore
l=40-b...............(I)
l-b=20
l=20+b...............(ii)

from both the equations 40-b=20+b
2b=20
b=10

l=40-10
l=30
