if lightning strikes a building ,it flows harmlessly through the lightning conductor .What property should the material of which the lighting conductor is made have, to make this possible?

The lightning conductor should be made of a thick strip of metal(usually copper) because metals can conduct electricity. If lightning strikes, it will hit the top of lightning conductor and the electric energy of lightning passes through the metal strip and gets discharged safely.
