Soil is prepared before sowing seeds in following ways:

1)The first step in preparation of soil is to turn the soil and loosen it.This process of loosening and turning of the soil is called tilling or ploughing and this is done by using a wooden or an iron plough.

2)After ploughing soil, the big pieces of soil called crumbs, are broken with a plank.

3)Then the field is levelled with the help of a leveller. Sometimes, manure is added to the soil before tilling.

4) Then finally, soil is watered before sowing seeds.

It is important to prepare the soil for sowing seeds because loosening of soil allows the roots to penetrate deep into the soil. Also, loose soil has more air. So, it allows the roots to breathe easily. Moreover ,the loosened soil helps in the growth of microorganisms and earthworms which add humus to the soil and increase its fertility.
