The value of n = 10

Given :

\displaystyle \sf{  {}^{n}C_8 ={}^{n}C_2   }

To find :

The value of n

Formula :

\displaystyle \sf{{}^{n}C_p ={}^{n}C_q    \implies \: either  \: p = q \: \: or \:  \: n = p + q }

Solution :

Step 1 of 2 :

Write down the given expression

Here the given expression is

\displaystyle \sf{  {}^{n}C_8 ={}^{n}C_2   }

Step 2 of 2 :

Find the value of n

\displaystyle \sf{ {}^{n}C_8 ={}^{n}C_2    }

We know that ,

\displaystyle \sf{{}^{n}C_p ={}^{n}C_q    \implies \: either  \: p = q \: \: or \:  \: n = p + q }

Since 8 ≠ 2

So from above we get

n = 8 + 2

⇒ n = 10

Hence the required value of n = 10
