when the next ionization energy involves removing an electron from the same electron shell ,the increase in ionization energy is primarily due to the increased net charge of the ion from which the electron is being .The ionization energy of an element increases as one moves across a period in periodic table because the ionization energy decreases .It becomes harder to remove an electron that is closer to a more positively charged nucleus .
