\bf{\huge{\underline{\boxed{\rm{\blue{Answer : }}}}}}

Given:-

  • \bf\large\frac{1}{2} is subtracted from a number
  • the difference is multiplied by 4 the result is 5

To find :-

  • The number

Solution :-

Let the number obtained be x

As per the first condition,

  • When \bf\large\frac{1}{2} subtracted from the number,

x - \bf\large\frac{1}{2} --->1

As per the second condition,

  • difference is multiplied by 4 the result is 5

\bf\implies 4 ( x - \bf\large\frac{1}{2} )= 5

\bf\implies 4x - 4 \bf\large\frac{1}{2} = 5

\bf\implies 4x - 2 = 5

\bf\implies 4x = 5 + 2

\bf\implies 4x = 7

\bf\implies x = \bf\large\frac{7}{4}

•°• the number is \bf\large\frac{7}{4}

\bf{\huge{\underline{\boxed{\tt{\red{Verification}}}}}}

Number = \bf\large\frac{7}{4}

Stated, \bf\large\frac{1}{2} is subtracted from the number, \bf\large\frac{7}{4} and the difference is multiplied by 4 the result is 5.

\bf\implies\bf\large\frac{7}{4} - \bf\large\frac{1}{2}

\bf\implies\bf\large\frac{ (7)(2) - (4)(1)}{(4)(2)}

\bf\implies\bf\large\frac{14 - 4}{8}

\bf\implies\bf\large\frac{10}{8}

\bf\implies\bf\large\frac{5}{4}

Now, this difference, \bf\large\frac{5}{4} is multiplied by 4 and the result is 5,

\bf\implies\bf\large\frac{5}{4} × 4 = 5

\bf\implies \bf\large\frac{20}{4} = 5

\bf\implies 5 = 5

LHS = RHS.

Hence verified.
