Question :

if one of the roots of quadratic equation kx²-7x+12=0 is 3 find k

Answer :

k = 1

Given :

  • quadratic equation, kx²-7x+12 = 0
  • 3 is one of the roots.

To find :

the value of k

Solution :

    Given quadratic equation,

     kx²-7x+12 = 0

Let p(x) = kx²-7x+12

Since 3 is one of the roots of the given quadratic equation,

=> p(3) = 0

When we substitute the value of x = 3, we get 0

Put x = 3,

 k(3)² - 7(3) + 12 = 0

  k(9) - 21 + 12 = 0

   9k - 9 = 0

    9k = 9

    k = 9/9

    k = 1

∴ The value of k is 1.
