Given equation :- ax² + bx + c = 0

• one root is three times the other

Let the first root be y
then second root be 3y

____________

Putting at the place of x

ay² + by + c .... ( i )

______________

9ay² + 3by + c .... ( ii )

_________

Both ( i ) & ( ii ) equation will be equal

ay² + by + c = 9ay² + 3by + c

ay² - 9ay² + by - 3by = 0

- 8ay² - 2by = 0

4ay² + by = 0

_______________

4ay² = - by

y = - b / 4a
