The length of the side of the square is 16 units

Solution:

Given,

One side of a square is represented by 18x – 20 and the adjacent side is represented by 42 – 13x

We know that,

In a square, all four side lengths are equal

Then,

18x - 20 = 42 - 13x\\\\18x + 13x = 42 + 20\\\\31x = 62 \\\\x = \frac{62}{31} \\\\x = 2

Thus,

length = 18x - 20

length = 18(2) - 20

length = 36 - 20

length = 16

Thus the length of the side of the square is 16 units
