⇒ (p - 1/p) = 4.

As we know that,

Squaring on both sides of the equation, we get.

⇒ (p - 1/p)² = (4)².

As we know that,

Formula of :

⇒ (x - y)² = x² + y² - 2xy.

Using this formula in the equation, we get.

⇒ p² + 1/p² - 2(p)(1/p) = 16.

⇒ p² + 1/p² - 2 = 16.

⇒ p² + 1/p² = 16 + 2.

p² + 1/p² = 18.
