Given :

  • P(m) = m² – 3m + 1

To find :

  • P(1) + P(–1)

Solution :

To find the value of P(1) + P(–1) first we have to find the value of P(1) and P(–1).

⟹ To find the value of P(1) first put m =1 in P(m) = m² – 3m + 1

⟹ P(1) = (1)² – 3(1) + 1

⟹ P(1) = 1 – 3 + 1

⟹ P(1) = 2 – 3

P(1) = -1

⟹ To find the value of P(-1) first put m =1 in P(m) = m² – 3m + 1

⟹ P(-1) = (-1)² – 3(-1) + 1

⟹ P(-1) = 1 + 3 + 1

⟹ P(-1) = 2 + 3

P(-1) = 5

Now , we have to find P(1) + P(–1) :-

⟹ P(1) + P(–1)

⟹ -1 + 5

4

Answer :

P(1) + P(–1) = 4
