(6 i + 8 j) . ( 4 i - 3j)

=(6i.4i) + (6i.{-3j}) + (8j.4i) + ( 8j.{-3j})

{i×i=1 since they make angle 0° with each other and cos 0°=1 ; i×j=0 since they make 90° angle with each other and cos 90° =0}

=(24)+(0)+(0)+(-24j)

= 24 - 24 = 0

therefore vector a . vector b =0

Answer- The above question is from the chapter 'Motion in a Plane'.

Concept used: Dot Product Method or Scalar Product Method

Dot product of two vectors a and b is product of their magnitudes and cosine of the smaller angle between them.

The resultant quantity is a scalar quantity and therefore, it called a scalar product.

Uses of Dot Product Method:

1) When two vectors are perpendicular

2) To find angle between two vectors

3) To find component of a vector along direction of another vector (Projectile)

Note- If two vectors have dot product = 0, then they are perpendicular to each other.
