If petrol, diesel, etc catch fire one should never try to extinguish it using water because -

  • The density of petrol and diesel is less than the density of water .
  • The petrol and diesel will float on water and the fire will continue .
  • Fire will spread as water will flow on the surface and carry the burning petrol and diesel with it .
