if plants take in carbon dioxide at day and give oxygen,and it takes oxygen at night and give carbon dioxide,why do we say that plants give oxygen to us?

..At night, sunlight is not there to provide energy to create food. Plants still have metabolic processes to perform and use cellular respiration (as animals do), taking in oxygen and giving out carbon dioxide. This is on a much smaller scale than the daylight processes............
