squaring on both sides of eq(2)
=>( p + q)^2 = 25
[ (a+b)^2 = a^2 + b^2 + 2ab ]
=> p^2 + q^2 + 2pq = 25
=> p^2 + q^2 + 2(6) = 25 [∵ from eq(1) ]
=> p^2 + q^2 + 12 = 25
=> p^2 + q^2 = 25 - 12
∴ p^2 + q^2 = 13
