$\bold{\textsf{Let the no. of boys and girls be x and y respectively.}}$

According to above question , total no. of boys = 80  students.

Here ,

$\bold{x+y=80.......(i)}$

$\underline{\bold{\textsf{Multiplying by 4 we get,}}}$

$\bold{4x+4y=320......(ii)}$

Total amount is to be distributed = Rs.420.

• Boys' share = $\bold{x*6=Rs.6x}$
• Girls' share = $\bold{y*4=Rs.4y}$.

From above statement ,

$\bold{6x+4y=420......(iii)}$

$\underline{\bold{\textsf{Now subtract eq.(ii) from eq.(iii) we get,}}}$

$\implies{\bold{6x+4y-(4x+4y)=420-320}}$

$\implies{\bold{2x=100}}$

$\implies{\bold{x = \frac{100}{2}=50. }$

Let the no. of girls be 'y'

Now according to the question,

CASE 1

x + y = 80
x = 80 - y -------- (i)

CASE 2

6x + 4y = 420

dividing the whole equation by 2

3x + 2y = 210

3 (80 - y) + 2y = 210

240 - 3y + 2y = 210

y = 30

So,

x = 80 - 30

x = 50

Therefore, the no. of boys = 50

no. of girls = 30
