Given secθ+tanθ=P....(1)

we know

sec2θ−tan2θ=1........(2)

Dividing (2) by (1) we get

secθ−tanθ=1P....(3)

Now adding (1) and (3) we have

2secθ=P+1P=P2+1P

⇒secθ=P2+12P

⇒cosθ=2PP2+1
