Solution :

It is given that Θ doesn't lies in first Quadrant.

  • Sin θ = 4/5

We need to find cos θ

We know that sin θ = Perpendicular/Hypotenuse

  • perpendicular = 4
  • Hypotenuse = 5
  • cos θ = base/Hypotenuse
  • Base = ???

Firstly we have to find the value of Base for finding value of cos θ.

By using Pythagoras theorem

Hypotenuse ² = Base² + Perpendicular ²

›› 5² = b² + 4²

›› 25 = b² + 16

›› b² = 25 - 16

›› b = √9

  • Base = 9

So,

  • Cos θ = - 9/5

As theta doesn't lies in first Quadrant and in first Quadrant sin θ is always +ve So, value of cos θ will be negative.
