TanA - cotA = 1

[On squaring both side]

we get,

Tan²A + cot²A - 2tan×1/tanA = 1

tan²A + cot²A = 1 + 2

Tan²A + cot²A = 3

It is given that ,

tan A - cot A = 1 ---- ( 1 )

Do the square of equation ( 1 ) ,

we get ,

( tan A - cot A )² = 1

tan² A + cot² A - 2tan A cotA = 1

tan² A + cot² A - 2 = 1

[ Since tanA cotA = 1 ]

tan² A + cot² A = 1 + 2

tan² A + cot² A = 3
