If tap A and fill 2/5 of a tank in 12 hours and pipe B can fill 1/6 of a tank in 6 hours how long will it take to fill the tank completely if both the taps are opened together.

then A can fill the whole tank = 12*5/2 = 30 hour

If B can fill the 1/6 tank in 6 hour

then B can fill the whole tank = 6*6/1 = 36 hour

Take the LCM of Time taken by both

LCM of 30 & 36 = 180

180 is the total capacity of tank

then efficiency of A is = 180/30 = 6

then efficiency of B is = 180/36 = 5

if both fill the tank = Total capacity/total efficiency

Total capacity = 180

Total efficiency of A & B = 6 + 5 = 11

Total time = 180/11

= 16 4/11 hours
