Step-by-step explanation:

let age of son be x

let age of father be y

given:. x=1/8 y

y=8x. - ( 1)

after 10 years age of son=x+10

after 10 years age of father=y+10

x+10/y+10=3/10

10(x+10)=3(y+10)

10x +100=3y+30

10x-3y=30-100

10x-3y= -70

10x-3(8x)=-70. -(from 1)

10x-24x=-70

-14x=-70

x=-70/-14

x=5

put value of x in (1)

y=8x

y=8*5

y=40

therefore age of son (x)=5 years

age of father(y)=40 years

Answer:

present Age of son=15 yrs

present age of father=50 yrs

Step-by-step explanation:

Let age of father be 'Af'

let age of son be 'As'

then given that: As=(1/8)Af=>8As=Af... (1)

after ten yrs their ages will be

(As+10)and (Af+10)

given that: (As+10) /(Af+10) =3/10 .... (2)

by substituting (1) in (2)

we have: (As+10) /(8As+10) =3/10

by solving the above expression we get:

As=5 yrs and Af= 40 yrs

thus present ages of son and father will be

(As+10= 15 yrs ) and (Af + 10= 50 yrs ) respectively.
